Korean Journal of Ophthalmology publishes manuscripts in the following categories: original articles, case reports, clinical experiments, review articles and letters to the Editor.
Research involving human subjects should comply with the Declaration of Helsinki of the World Medical Association. Manuscripts should contain the statement that signed informed consent forms have been obtained from all study subjects, and the documents showing approval of the study by the institutional review board or an equivalent authority.
The papers submitted to the association should have not been published elsewhere and should not be reviewed simultaneously for publication in other journals.

The copyright on all published articles will be held by the Korean Ophthalmological Society. At the time of submission, each manuscript should be accompanied by an original Copyright Transfer Agreement signed by all authors.

| 3. Conflict of Interest Policy |
|
Authors are required to disclose commercial or similar relationships to products or companies mentioned in or related to the subject matter of the article being submitted. Sources of funding for the article should be acknowledged in a footnote on the title page. Affiliations of authors should include corporate appointments relating to or in connection with products or companies mentioned in the article.

| 4. Submission of Manuscripts |
|
Manuscripts must be submitted in scientifically correct English. Articles received that do not comply with this requirement will be returned to the author before being considered for publication.
All manuscripts must be submitted on line via the Korean Ophthalmological Society E-submission & Review System.(http://www.ophthalmology.org/kjo). The text must be submitted as a Microsoft Office Word (*.doc) file. The article must be in 10-font size, double-spaced with 2.5-cm margins on each side. Page number and a running title (no more than 50 characters including blank space) should appear at the top right of each page. No abbreviations should be included in the title

1) All papers should contain ¨ç title page ¨è abstract ¨é introduction ¨êmaterials and methods ¨ëresults ¨ì discussion (by referring to the literature) ¨í references ¨î illustrations and explanatory captions and ¨ï tables in the same order as they are presented here.
2) Sequence numbers should not be used to describe the text.

The title should not exceed 15 words and two lines. The first letter of each word should be capitalized except for a particle or a preposition. The title should not include any abbreviations and product names.
If the paper has been presented in an academic conference, the title of seminar, date and place should be noted at the bottom of the page. Any sponsorship or subsidy can also be disclosed, if any.

Abstract should provide an overview of all
text in concise manner. The abstract should not exceed 250
words and be structured into Purpose, Methods, Results and
Conclusions. For case reports, Conclusions can be omitted.
Up to 5 Key words may be listed alphabetically after the
abstract. The first letter of each word should be capitalized.

Introduction: The main purposes of the study should be systematically presented in a cohesive and logical manner. Any background information should be mentioned specifically when they are closely linked to the purpose, but other factors irrelevant to the study should be avoided.
Materials and methods: The purpose of research, materials and methods should be described in details: how subjects are composed and surveyed should be included. In addition, experiment procedures should be specific enough to be repeated if the experiment method is important.
Results: The results of the study should be described accurately and logically. The observed data should be statistically evaluated for biological measurements, if there are many changes in data. Tables should not duplicate information that was mentioned in the text but be used to highlight key numerical information and points of interests.
Discussion: Discussion should include elements related to the purpose of the study and clarify results that support the conclusion by referring to the relevant literature while avoiding historical facts, book content and other irrelevant information.
Abbreviations must be defined immediately following the first use in the abstract, main text, figures, and tables. Unusual abbreviations should be avoided. Drug and chemical names should be stated in standard chemical or generic nomenclature. Units of measure should be presented according to the International System (SI) of units. Clinical data may be presented in conventional units with SI units in parentheses.

The list of references should be arranged in numerical order according to the sequence of citations within the text. The citation number in the reference list and the number that appear in the text citation should be identical for the same reference.

All references should be cited in the text. Any thesis that has not been published should be listed with a remark of "to be published in (month)" instead of the Vol. page number. |

Any source marked as "cited from..." cannot be valid. Abstract, poster, word of mouth and manufactured manual cannot be cited as references. |

The period (.) should punctuate the sentence, not the citation number, which comes after the author's name, if any,. The citation number follows the period.

Other requirements for reference listing

List names of all authors when four or less. When five or more, list only the first three names and add et al. |

References for journal articles list the author(s), the full title of the article, the journal title, the year of publication, the volume number and page range.

References for journal articles should conform to the journal title abbreviations used in Index Medicus Any relevant literature published in Korea should be included in the list of references, if possible.

10. Figures and Explanatory caption |
|
All illustrations (original drawings or photographs) should be attached in a separate file and numbered after each drawing or photograph in the same order in which they were mentioned in the text. The same photo that was used for reviewing should be published. The fee required for the publication of illustrations will be charged to authors. The preferred formats are jpg at a standard resolutions (ie, 5 million pixel, 300 dpi for photos). Illustrations can be marked with arrow, letters or other indicators, if necessary. The explanatory caption of each illustration should be understandable without references to the text. A photo featuring a patient whose face can be identified should be accompanied by a written consent from the patient.

Each table should be numbered consecutively with Arabic numerals according to their sequence in the text and given a brief title. Each table should be typed on a separate sheet. Vertical lines or oblique lines should not be used to separate columns. The symbols can be used in the following order: *, ¢Ó, ¢Ô, ¡×, ¥Ð. #. Each symbol must be defined in the endnotes. Tables should be independently comprehensive without references to the text.

Costs incurred for the publication of manuscripts will be charged to authors. Authors will receive 30 copies of their papers. Any author who wants more than 30 copies should specify the number of copies on the top right of the final version of the paper in red. Additional costs for extra copies will be charged to the author.
|
To decide acceptance of an article for publication, the papers will be peer-reviewed by at least two members of the editorial board. The Editor-in-chief¡¯s decision will be final. Before publication, page proofs will be forwarded to the Corresponding Author who will bear responsibility for the final contents, including all proofreading and copyediting changes.
|
The above mentioned requirements are also applied to case reports. Around A4 6 pages with 10 point font size are recommended for the length of manuscripts. The abstract should not exceed 200 words and be not structured.

| 15. Requirements for manuscript submission |
All manuscripts should conform to the requirements specified herewith.

The publication can be delayed for any manuscripts that are not consistent with thesis format and not verified for spelling errors. |
| 2) |
If the relevant literatures published in Korea are not cited without specific reasons, the manuscript can be at a disadvantage during the peer-review process. |
| 3) |
Manuscripts should not be altered after the peer-review. |
| 4) |
4) The corresponding author will double as the responsible author, but a physician in training as a resident may not be the responsible author. |
| 5) |
The Application for Publication form should bear the author's signature. |
| 6) |
If there is a change in authors, the reasons for the change should be submitted to the association to secure the consent of the Editor in Chief. For the change in the first author or the corresponding author, the consent of the Editing Committee is required. |
| 7) |
The name and the institutional address of the author should not be mentioned in the text. |
