대한안과학회는 대한민국 안과 전문의와 안과 전공의 및 안과 업무에 종사하는 대한민국 의사로
구성되어 있으며, 본 학회는 안과학의 향상 발전과 회원 상호간의 친목 도모를 목적으로 하고 회원의 계속적인 연구와 안과학의 발전을 위해 1987년 ‘대한안과학회지’를 창간하게 되었다.
대한안과학회지는 대한안과학회의 공식 간행물로서 매월 발간하며 주로 한국인의 질병에 대한 분석, 또는 한국에서 시행되는 안과적 기초 실험에 대한 논문들을 게재한다. 해당 논문을 투고받아 각 분야의 전문가에게 심사를 위촉하여 게재여부를 결정한다. 대한안과학회지 는 게재된 논문을 정기적으로 발간하고 이를 대한안과학회 회원, 의과대학, 도서관, 그 밖의 국내외 관련기관에 배포함으로써 국내 안과학 발전은 물론 회원 상호간 및 국제 안과학계와의 지속적인 학술교류를 도모한다.
궁극적으로는 안과학의 발전을 통하여 국민과 인류의 건강증진에 기여함을 최종목표로 한다.

| The Aims and Scope of the Journal of The Korean Ophthalmological Society |
The Korean Ophthalmological Society (KOS), whose members are composed of Korean board-certified ophthalmologists, ophthalmology residents, and physicians practicing ophthalmology-related medical care, publishes the journal to promote advances in ophthalmology, mutual friendship among the members of the society, and the members' commitment to continued research and development. The first issue of JKOS was published in 1958.
The journal is the official journal of KOS and each month publishes articles relating to ocular diseases and basic research in ophthalmology.
Submitted papers are peer-reviewed and evaluated before publication by experienced specialists in each subspecialty. The monthly journal is distributed to members of KOS, medical schools, libraries, and many other institutions at home and abroad to promote the development of Korean ophthalmology and academic exchanges among KOS members as well as international society members.
The ultimate goal of JKOS is to make contributions to the well-being of Korean people and the human race in general by improving the science and technology in ophthalmology.
