목적 : To estimate 12-year incidence and its trends of clinically-diagnosed retinal vein occlusion (RVO) in Korea.
방법 : Nationwide population-based retrospective study using data entered into the Korean national health claims database from 2002 to 2015 for the entire Korean population (49705663 individuals based on the 2015 Census population). We identified patients with incident RVO in 2004–2015. After calculating crude incidence rates in each 12 year using each mid-year population, we estimated standardized RVO incidence rates in each 12-year study period according to the 2015 Census population, and then, calculated the weighted average RVO incidence rates (per 100,000 person-years) during the study periods.
결과 : A total of 240495 cases of RVO were identified. The weighted average incidence rate was 48.09 (95% CI, 47.92–48.27). The incidence rates among men and women were 42.78 (42.55–43.02), and 53.18 (52.92–53.44), respectively (P < 0.001). The highest incidence of 193.56 (191.06–196.06) was observed in the age group of 75 to 79 years [175.11 (171.22–179.00) and 204.56 ( 201.32–207.81) for men and women aged 75 to 79 years, respectively]. Retinal vein occlusion occurred more often in men younger than 50 years and in men older than 80 years, but was more common in women 50 to 80 years of age.
결론 : This study reports the population-based RVO incidence in Korea. The RVO incidence in Korea increased exponentially with increasing age and was the highest among those aged 75 to 79 years. Moreover, the RVO incidence in women was 1.24 times higher than that in men.
