The result of ROP treatment by low dose of intravitreal injection of bevacizumab |

Purpose : To report the anatomical result of intravitreal injection of bevacizumab (avastin) at a very low dose for prethreshold and threshold ROP.
Methods : From Jan. 2016-Dec.2017 at Neonatal department of National Obstetrics and Gynaecology hospital in Hanoi, 115 babies with birth weight from 600g to 1600g ( means: 1216 ± 426 g), gestation age from 26 weeks to 33 weeks ( means: 28.65 ± 2.32 weeks) with ROP were treated by intravitreal injection of avastin 0.01ml (0.25mg), the recurrent was get a second injection .
Results : 112/115 was followed up from 9-20 months. 3 patients was lost follow up due to death (1) or changed address (2). ROP was regressed in 224/224 eyes (100%), the recurrent was 4.46% who finally regressed after the second injection. 2 patients with 4 eyes (1.78%) had secondary glaucoma which were responded well with topical eyedrop. No systemic side effect was recorded.
Conclusion : Intravitreal injection of avastin at lose dose is an effective and safe treatment for ROP. The local complication is rare and can be treated.
