Purpose : To report the clinical profile of pediatric patients with uveitis in North-East India Methods : A hospital-based retrospective study was conducted. SUN protocol was used to report clinical data. We reviewed 38 pediatric uveitic patients from the manual record under 16 years of age over 6 years (2012-2017). Types, causes, gender, age, laterality, treatment taken etc were recorded Results : Of the1934 uveitis patients who presented to the hospital from January 2012 to December 2017, 38 were pediatric cases. Of these 14(36.84%) were females and 24(63.15%) were males. Anterior uveitis was reported in 12(31.57%) patients, intermediate uveitis in 8(21.05%) patients, posterior uveitis in 7(18.42%) patients and panuveitis was seen in 11(28.94%) patients. Amongst the anterior uveitis cases 4 cases were idiopathic, 4 Juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA), 1 Fuchs uveitis syndrome (FUS) and 2 viral uveitis. Amongst intermediate uveitis Tuberculosis (TB) accounted for 3 cases, masquerade syndrome 2 and pars planitis was seen in 3 cases. Posterior uveitis included Toxoplasma retinochoroiditis 4 cases, APMPPE 1 case and Toxocara 2 cases. Whereas panuveitis had sarcoidosis as the cause in 5 cases, TB in 3 cases, VKH in 2 cases and sympathetic ophthalmia accounted for 1 case of panuveitis. Unilateral uveitis was seen in 21 patients and 17 cases had bilateral uveitis.8 cases were Granulomatous uveitis, 30 cases were non- granulomatous uveitis. Most of the cases were treated with conventional treatment and responded well to therapy, 1 patient was treated with infliximab for resistance to conventional treatment Conclusion : peadiatric uveitis ranges from 2-4 % cases in a referral practice in northeast India. There is a need for the standardized outcome measures to evaluate functional impact of pediatric uveitis and age related quality– of-life assessment tools to assess activities of daily living relevant to children.
