Purpose : To evaluation of photodisruption of retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) on the long standing retinal pigment epithelial detachment(PED). Methods : Seven eyes with PED persisted or enlarged more than 4 months were treated RPE photodisruption. The laser treatment were performed one time with between 19 spots and 55 spots of short duration and small spot size to induce mechanical break of the RPE. Five male and two female whose age is from 65 to 80 and all the patients present blurred vision and metamorphopsia. Results : Among 7eyes, 4 eyes showed decreased PED size to under half volume within 2 months of the photodisuption and one eye within 3 months but there was no effect on the other two eyes. Five simple PED was improved and Two PED with choroidal neovascularization(CNV) has no effect even if antiVEGF agent intravitreal injection were accompanied several times. Conclusion : Photodisruption of RPE could be an optional treatment modality on the longstanding and large PED which has symptoms and risk of RPE tear.
