| Comparison of mix-and-match cataract surgery: Bilateral diffractive multifocal vs extended depth of focus with diffractive multifocal intraocular lens |

Purpose : To compare the clinical outcomes of bilateral mix-and-match cataract surgery of diffractive multifocal intraocular lenses (IOLs) with different add power versus of using Extended Depth of Focus(EDOF) and diffractive multifocal(DMF) intraocular lens(IOL).
Methods : Group 1, two DMF IOLs were implanted bilaterally in 18 patients. Tecnis +2.75 diopter(D) multifocal IOL was implanted in the dominant eye and Tecnis +4.00 D multifocal IOL was implanted in the non-dominant eye. Group 2, 14 patients with bilateral cataract were enrolled and followed. Tecnis symfony EDOF IOL was implanted in the dominant eye and Tecnis +3.25 D multifocal IOL was implanted in the non-dominant eye.
Binocular uncorrected distance visual acuity(UDVA), uncorrected intermediate visual acuity(UIVA), uncorrected near visual acuity(UNVA) were evaluated at 3 months after surgery.
Results : Group 1, the mean binocular UDVA was 0.05±0.07 logMAR, UIVA was 0.34±0.12 logMAR, and UNVA was 0.15±0.09 logMAR at 3 months. Over 80% of subjects reported that they were very satisfied with their near vision and 93.75% would recommend these IOLs to their friends.
Group 2, the mean UDVA at 3 months after surgery was 0.05±0.09 logMAR in both eyes. The mean UIVA was 0.08±0.08 logMAR in both eyes. The mean UNVA was 0.18±0.13 in both eyes. Only three patients complained of glare and halo. The overall satisfaction of the patients was good with an average of 4.5 points out of five.
Conclusion : Bilateral mix-and-match implantation of +2.75 D and +4.00 D multifocal IOLs showed good near, intermediate, and far vision. Patients expressed a high degree of satisfaction. Also, mix-and-match cataract surgery with EDOF and DMF IOL is expected to improve the patient's satisfaction by lowering the glasses dependency and showing good correction of the distance, intermediate and near vision.
