목적 : ATP-binding cassette sub-family A 1 (ABCA1) is known as a regulator of cellular cholesterol and phospholipid homeostasis. Elevation in ABCA1 has been known to show protective role in regulating angiogenesis. Hypoxia-inducible factor 1 (HIFs) complex, which increases in hypoxic condition, plays a role in increasing the level of ABCA1. So far, the association between ABCA1 and retinal pathologic neovascularization remained unknown. Here, we compared ABCA1 level between proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR) patients and normal control patients using an easily accessible human aqueous humor. 방법 : To analysis expression of ABCA1 we selected 6 PDR and 4 control patients in This prospective study. Aqueous humor sample was collected before intravitreal injection for PDR patients, and cataract surgery for controls. Expression of ABCA1, HIFs and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), the downstream proteins of HIFs, were detected using western blot. 결과 : ABCA1 was detected in human aqueous humor sample for the first time. The expression of ABCA1, HIFs and VEGF were increased in aqueous humor samples of PDR patients, compared to control. 결론 : In the present study, we showed that ABCA1 was elevated in aqueous humor with PDR patients. These results indicate that ABCA1 may be increased in response to retinal pathologic angiogenesis. Further analysis on the role of the ABCA1 in retinal pathologic neovascularization will be needed.
