목적 : To investigate the incidence of third nerve palsy in the general Korean population
방법 : The authors used data from the National Health Insurance Service–National Sample Cohort (NHIS-NSC) which included approximately 1 million individuals (2% of the Korean population) with 14-year claim data (2002–2015). Subjects who were newly diagnosed as third nerve palsy (registration code H490) were involved as incidental cases by setting the 4-years washout period. During the 10-year follow-up, the incidence of third nerve palsy was analyzed.
결과 : Among the 1,108,248 subjects within the cohort, 402 new cases of third nerve palsy were identified during the 10-year follow-up. The incidence of third nerve palsy in the cohort was 3.85 per 100,000 person-years (95% confidence interval, 3.49–4.24), increased with age and peaked at 70-79 years. There was no significant sex predisposition (overall MF ratio = 1.16).
결론 : The incidence estimate of third nerve palsy was comparable with those of Caucasians.
Third nerve palsy showed lower incidence than the previously reported fourth or sixth nerve palsies in other population-based studies.
