목적 : To determine the efficacy of a biodegradable Ologen (Aeon Astron Europe BV, Leiden, The Netherland) collagen matrix in reducing the complications related with adjustable suture knot after strabismus surgery. 방법 : Seventy-one cases who underwent adjustable strabismus surgery with bow tie technique for exo- or esotropia were enrolled. Exotropia patients had unilateral recess/resect procedure incorporating an adjustable lateral rectus muscle recession. Esotropia patients had bilateral medial rectus recess incorporating an adjustable suture in one randomly selected eye. Ologen was implanted over the adjustable suture knot around original rectus insertion site. Complications related with adjustable suture knot such as persistent hyperemia, granuloma, conjunctival cyst and knot exposure were evaluated. 결과 : Of the 71 cases, 28 cases had Ologen implantation; the other 43 cases had conventional adjustable strabismus surgery. Conjunctival granulomas, cyst, and knot exposure were noted in 5 (12%), 1 (2%), 1 (2%) cases of the conventional group, respectively, while which were not observed in Ologen implantation group. The duration of conjunctival redness was significantly shorter in the Ologen implantation group than the conventional group. There was no complication such as sub-conjunctival infection and persistent swelling in the Ologen implantation group. 결론 : Adjustable suture knot complications were significantly less noticeable in the Ologen implanted group than in conventional group. Thus, Ologen implantation may assist strabismus surgeons in performing safer adjustable surgery and help toward improving patient satisfaction.
