목적 : The aim of this pilot study was to evaluate changes in macular function and drusen volume after selective retina therapy (SRT) in patients with intermediate age-related macular degeneration (AMD).
방법 : This prospective non-randomized interventional case series study included twenty eyes in 20 patients with bilateral intermediate AMD. After evaluation of test spots at the temporal arcades, SRT laser treatment (wavelength 527 nm, pulse repetition rate 100 Hz, pulse energy ramping with maximal 15 micropulses) using real-time feedback-controlled dosimetry was applied around the macula.. Changes in best corrected visual acuity (BCVA), drusen volume within each central 3 mm, 5 mm ring (C3, C5) and retinal sensitivity (RS) were evaluated at baseline, then at 3, 6, 9 and 12 months after treatment.
결과 : : There was no significant change in the mean BCVA (log MAR) at 12 months, whereas the mean drusen volume (0.126±0.115mm3) and mean cube root volume (0.433±0.182 mm) at C5 decreased to 0.099±0.104 and 0.406±0.139, respectively at 12 months (P=0.044, P=0.028). Mean RS increased from 22.8 ± 2.6 dB to 24.7 ± 2.3 dB (P=0.022) at 12 months in the SRT-treated eyes. A reduction in the drusen volume of 42% was noted in the treated eyes and 16% in the contralateral untreated eyes. No adverse effects like choroidal neovascularization or retinal hemorrhage were observed during a one-year follow up.
결론 : SRT achieved a reduction in the mean drusen volume and an increase in retinal sensitivity. SRT might be a potential therapeutic intervention for intermediate AMD.
