Purpose : To evaluate the results and safety of FS assisted LASIK and ReLEx SMILE surgery for myopic patients +/- astigmatism.
Methods : Prospective descriptive study on the results of FS LASIK (for 250 eyes of 125 patients) and ReLEx SMILE (for 250 eyes of 126 patients). The spherical equivalents were -5.68±1.74D (ranged from -1,50D to -12,00D) in FS LASIK group and -6.12±1.67D (ranged from -1,50D to -12,00D) in SMILE group. Follow-up was done in 1 day, 1 week, 1, 3, 6 months after surgery to evaluate on VA, refraction, safety and post-operative result predictability.
Results : At 6th month after surgery, in FS LASIK group, UCVA ≥ 20/20 was found in 84%, UCVA ≥ 20/40 in 97%. These figures in SMILE group were 86% and 98% respectively. No eye has lost 2 lines of VA in both groups. UCVA was increased by 1 line compared to BCVA before surgery in 24 eyes of FS LASIK goup and in 26 eyes of SMILE group. At 6th month after surgery, residual RE ±0.50D was found in 83%, ±1,00D in 96% of the FS LASIK group. In SMILE group these figures were 84% and 94%.
Conclusion : Both FS LASIK and SMILE surgeries are effective to correct myopia +/- astigmatism along the 6 months follow-up. Both are good at achieving high VA after surgery, safe and outcome predictable.
