목적 : We aimed to investigate the association between female reproductive factors and open-angle glaucoma (OAG) in Korean female, using the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES).
방법 : A nationwide population-based, cross-sectional study. We enrolled 23,376 participants from the KNHANES who were 40 years or older and who had undergone ophthalmologic exams from 2010 through 2012. The association between female reproductive factors, including age at menarche and menopause, number of parity, experience of breast feeding, and administration of oral contraceptives (OC) or hormone replacement therapy (HRT) and undiagnosed OAG were determined using step-wise logistic regression analyses.
결과 : Of those enrolled participants, 6,860 participants (397 participants with OAG and 6,463 participants without OAG) met our study criteria and were included in the analyses. In multivariate logistic regression analysis after adjusting for all potential confounding factors, only early menopause (younger than 45 years) was significantly associated with OAG, only in participants with natural menopause (OR 2.28, 95% CI 1.17-4.46). Age at menarche, the number of parity, lactation, and administration of OC or HRT showed no significant association with OAG.
결론 : Our data suggested that only early menopause was associated with increased risk of OAG, which showed different result from previous Western studies that had reported both early menopause and late menarche as associated factors.
