목적 : To determine the incidence of retinitis pigmentosa (RP) in South Korea.
방법 : Our study is a nationwide population-based retrospective study of entire South Korea. Patients who confirmed as RP by ophthalmologist from January, 1, 2011 to December, 31, 2014 and registered “copayment policy” in South Korea based on result of electroretinography and electrooculography were included. The incidence rate of RP during the 4-year period was estimated using the population data of the 2010 Census in Korea.
결과 : A total of 3,138 (1,566 men; 1,572 women) confirmed RP patient were identified. The incidence of RP was 1.63/100,000 person-years (p-y) [95% confidence interval (CI), 1.58-1.69]. The incidence of RP distribution skewed to the left across age groups, with one lower peak observed in age-group 20-24 years (1.24 /100,000 p-y) and the maximum peak observed in age-group 60-64 years (3.24/100,000 p-y). The overall incidences in men and women were similar [1.64 (95% CI, 1.56-1.73) for men; 1.63 (95% CI, 1.55-1.71) for women]. However, male to female ratio was more than twice in around 20 years old.
결론 : These estimates of the nationwide population based incidence of RP in an Asian population may help to understand the disease pathophysiology and to plan accordingly within the healthcare system.
