목적 : To report cases of necrotizing scleritis, a sight-threatening complication that can result from cosmetic eye-whitening procedures.
방법 : Retrospective noncomparative case series.
The medical records of patients that had received a cosmetic eye-whitening procedure with an intraoperative and postoperative topical MMC treatment that were diagnosed with necrotizing scleritis at the avascular lesion were reviewed.
결과 : 4 eyes of 4 patients were included in this review. Necrotizing scleritis was diagnosed at an average of 44 months after eye whitening surgery, and all patients were diagnosed in one eye. All patients received systemic and topical steroid therapy, three patients underwent conjunctival flap surgery and one patient received subconjunctival triamcinolone injections. After treatment, steroid-induced cataract was found in one patient and otherwise, no severe visual loss was found.
결론 : Nectrotizing scleritis is a severe complication that can arise after cosmetic eye-whitening procedures performed with topical MMC. Necrotizing scleritis after eye whitening with MMC can be more extensive and severe than SINS after pterygium removal surgeries, however with proper anti-inflammation treatment and surgical management, visual loss can be prevented.
