목적 : To evaluate the risk of stroke after diagnosis of open-angle glaucoma (OAG).
방법 : The OAG group was comprised of patients with an initial diagnosis of OAG between January 2004 and December 2007 (n=1,520), and the comparison group was comprised of randomly selected patients (five per glaucoma patient; n=7,577) who were matched with the OAG group according to age, gender, residential area, household income, and year of initial OAG diagnosis. Patients who were diagnosed with stroke before the enrolment date, between 2004 and 2008, were excluded. Each cohort was tracked until 2013. Cox proportional hazard regression analysis was performed to determine possible correlations.
결과 : Stroke developed in 14.5% of patients in the OAG group and in 10.2% of subjects in the comparison group, and was associated with increased stroke incidences (HR = 1.26; 95% CI, 1.07–1.47). Traditional risk factors of hypertension, diabetes mellitus, chronic renal failure, atrial fibrillation, hyperlipidemia, increasing age, and male gender also increased the incidences of stroke. Risk of stroke for OAG patients was greater in the older age group (≥ 65 years, HR = 1.23) than in the younger age group (< 65 years, HR = 1.12), and greater in males (HR = 1.31) than in females (HR = 1.11).
결론 : Patients who were diagnosed with OAG were more likely to experience subsequent stroke than comparison groups without OAG, and the risk was greater for older adults and males.
