본문 : We describe two cases of X-linked juvenile retinoschisis treated with a topical dorzolamide.
Two patients presented with decreased visual acuity(VA) for unknown periods. A 11 year old boy presented with VA of 0.6 and 0.15 and another 28 year old man presented with VA of 0.2 and 0.4 in the right and left eyes, respectively. Funduscopy of two patients showed a silver-grey retinal reflex and cartwheel-like macular degeneration bilaterally. Electroretinogram were recorded and showed decreased b-wave amplitude, which was consistent with the diagnosis of X-linked juvenile retinoschisis. Bilateral cystic maculopathy was confirmed in two patients by optical coherence tomography.
Patients were prescribed topical dorzolamide 2% 3 times daily to each eye and followed up about 3 months. Visual acuity and OCT measurements before and after treatment were compared.
4 eyes of 2 patients showed a reduction in the central foveal thickness and foveal cyst size when compared with the pretreatment level but only 2 eyes of 2 patients had improvement in BCVA.
Sustained treatment with topical dorzolamide showed short-term efficacy for reducing foveal schisis.
