목적 : To evaluate the safety and usefulness of Brilliant Blue G (BBG) for visualizing the anterior capsule during cataract surgery in eyes with cataract coexisting with vitreous hemorrhage.
방법 : This study was a retrospective analysis of the patients with coexisting cataract and vitreous hemorrhage for which they underwent combined pars plana vitrectomy, phacoemulsification, and IOL implantation. Patients were classified into two group; Group 1with 28 patients who had capsular staining with BBG during CCC process, and Group 2with 38 patients who underwent CCC without capsular staining. Pre-operative and post-operative assessment included best corrected visual acuity, corneal clarity, presence of inflammation of the anterior chamber, intraocular pressure, and corneal endothelial status
결과 : There were no statistically significant differences in baseline characteristics between two groups including age, BCVA, IOP, and corneal endothelial cell status. The BBG staining improved visualization of the anterior capsule, and a complete capsulorhexis could be performed in all eyes. Endothelial cell count of group I was 2486.7 at 1 month and at 3 months, which were smaller than 2638.2 and 2657.0 of group II respectively.
결론 : Although the 0.025% BBG is a simple technique that provides a better view of the lens structure, it is revealed in this study to have possible corneal endothelial toxicity. Precaution in the use of BBG during cataract surgery might be required until the safety margin of BBG concentration is settled.
