목적 : To investigate the prevalence of presenile cataract and identify the associated risk factors in the general Korean population. 방법 : A total of 14921 subjects aged ≤50 years with slit lamp assessment of lens status were included in the analysis. To determine the association of the sociodemographic and clinical characteristics with cataracts, the univariate and stepwise multivariate logistic regression analyses were conducted. 결과 : The weighted prevalence of presenile cataract was 5.2%. Older age and male gender were independent risk factors for cataracts. After adjustments for age and sex, the presenile cataract was related with income, educational level, occupation, physical activity, hypertension(HTN), diabetes, chronic renal failure, and myopia. In multivariate regression analyses, older age(OR, 1.20; CI 1.17-1.22), male gender(1.36; 1.14-1.63), educational level(1.30; 1.02-1.66), lower physical activity(1.26; 1.01-1.57), HTN(1.44; 1.14-1.82), and myopia(1.31; 1.06-1.61) were associated with the presenile cataract. 결론 : The prevalence of presenile cataract was found to be 5.2% in Korea. The risk factors with presenile cataract were slightly different from the conventional factors of senile cataract. The present study is the first report of the sociodemographic and biological factors associated with the presenile cataract.
