목적 : To estimate the economic cost of visual loss in Korea in order to provide effective plans for the national eye care system.
방법 : A prevalence-based approach was used in this study. To quantify the total cost of visual loss, direct health system expenditure, and other indirect economic costs such as productivity losses and loss of healthy life were estimated.
결과 : Of the total economic cost due to visual impairment in Korea in 2011, direct health cost accounted for \1,619,317,830,000(KRW) ($1,461,478,186 USD). Indirect cost was calculated to be \1,270,841,523,544(KRW)($ 1,270,841,523,544 USD), and this included unemployment and absenteeism due to visual impairment, productivity losses and additional care costs due to presenteeism, and dead weight loss due to loss of tax revenue and transfer payment for visual impairment. The cost of loss of well-being was estimated to be \32,660,939,212,122(KRW)($ 29,477,381,960 USD).
결론 : The total economic cost of visual impairment in Korea, 2011 was \35,551,098,565,666(KRW)($ 32,085,829,030(USD)). The economic cost of visual impairment accounts for 2.2% of GDP in 2011, leading to significant financial losses individually, socially, and nationally.
