목적 : To investigate the distribution and change according to measurement time of axial length as measured using partial laser interferometry in Korean elementary schoolchildren. 방법 : A cross-sectional study was conducted on 68 eyes of 34 Koreans aged 12 to 13 years residing in Seoul. Ocular components including axial length (AL) and corneal radius (CR) was measured by partial coherence inteferometry. Refraction was recorded in spherical equivalent (SE) using open-field autorefractor. Two sets of measurements were collected at approximately 5-hour intervals, with the first measurement taken at ~9AM and second measurement at ~1PM. 결과 : The mean AL of right eye(RE) were 23.26±0.50 and 24.46±1.05 for the emmetropia and myopia groups respectively(p=0.003). AL did not vary significantly with sex(boys 24.24 ±1.19, girls 24.04±0.94, p=0.578). A positive association was found between the ALs of RE and left eye(LE)(r2=0.930, p<0.001 at the first measurement, r2=0.900, p=0.01 at the second measurement). Although there was no significant difference, the longer AL was typically examined at the second measurement(24.25±1.00 in RE, 24.30±0.99 in LE) than the first measurement(24.18±1.08 in RE, 24.21±1.06 in LE)(p=0.709, p=0.646). 결론 : The mean diurnal change in AL was 0.07±0.34mm in the right eyes and 0.09±0.39mm in the left eyes. The longer AL at midday than in the morning was observed.
