A Hierarchical Cluster Analysis of Normal Tension Glaucoma
Using Spectral Domain Optical Coherence Tomography Parameters

목적 : Normal tension glaucoma (NTG) includes various and heterogeneous optic neuropathies. And there are still many unanswered questions and controversies about the sub classification of NTG. In this investigation, we tried to classify NTG by a hierarchical cluster analysis using optic nerve head (ONH) / retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thickness parameters from spectral domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT).방법 : : Two hundred eyes of 200 NTG patients, who underwent SD-OCT scanning using the Optic Disc Scan of Cirrus HD SD-OCT (Carl Zeiss Meditec) between March 2011 and June 2012, were anlayzed. Based on the parameters of ONH and RNFL thickness, we classified NTG into homogeneous sub-groups by using a hierarchical cluster analysis. After that, we compared clusters each other to evaluate diverse NTG characters.결과 : Three clusters were made after a hierarchical cluster analysis. Cluster 1 (62 eyes) has the thickest RNFL and widest rim area, and shows early glaucoma features. Cluster 2 (60 eyes) is characterized by largest cup/disc ratio and cup volume, and indicates advanced glaucomatous damage. Cluster 3 (78eyes) which has small disc area in SD-OCT exhibits significantly younger age, longer axial length, and more myopia than other two groups.결론 : A hierarchical cluster analysis divided NTG patients into three groups by ONH parameters and RNFL thickness in SD-OCT, and it is expected that the small disc area group which has young and myopia patients distinctively may show unique features unlike other two groups.
