목적 : To describe a case of diabetic macular edema resolution after spontaneous separation of epiretinal membrane. 방법 : A 54-year-old male visited our out-patient clinic. He had diagnosis of hypertension and diabetes since 15 years ago. His best-corrected visual acuity were 20/20 in his right eye and 20/32 in his left eye. Fundus examination showed multiple microaneurysms, retinal hemorrhages and hard exudates in both eyes and macular epiretinal memebrane with edema in his left eye. No neovascularization was observed in FAG. On OCT, central macular thickness was 429μm in left eye. Focal laser photocoagulation and intravitreal bevacizumab injection were performed in left eye for the treatment of macular edema. 결과 : The patient's BCVA was 20/32 in left eye, but the ERM spontaneously peeled off and contracted to a small white gliotic mass. On OCT examination, decrease in macular edema was observed and central macular thickness was 336 μm. During four months after ERM separation, there were no recurrence of ERM and macular thickening.
결론 : The authors report a case with resolution of diabetic macular edema after spontaneous separation of epiretinal membrane. Before considering vitrectomy, observation can be one of the treatment options for diabetic macular edema associated with ERM.
