| Clinical evolution of ocular manifestations in Korean patients with Behcet's disease |

목적 : Behcet's disease (BD) is an immune-mediated systemic vasculitis, and its ocular manifestations, mostly presented as uveitis or retinal vasculitis, eventually lead to severe visual impairment. There are recent reports that suggest milder manifestation of BD, and this study analyzed the chronological change in Korean BD patients with ocular involvement.
방법 : Ocular and systemic findings were analyzed retrospectively from medical records of the patients diagnosed with BD from 1994 to 2010. We included the BD patients with ocular involvement, and divided them into two groups according to the date of their first visit to the ophthalmology department, from 1994 to 2000 (group 1) versus 2004-2010 (group 2).
결과 : Fifty-six patients (83 eyes) were included for this analysis. There was a significant decrease in number of complete type BD (p=0.031) and less genital lesion (p=0.011) in group 2. Mean visual acuity was better in group 2 than group 1 at 1-year follow-up (p=0.005) and 2-year (p=0.048), respectively. Patients with decreased vision at 2-year follow-up were statistically less frequent in group 2 (p=0.022). There was no significant change in treatment modality of uveitis in BD.
결론 : The severity of BD has been decreasing, especially in terms of visual prognosis in BD patients with ocular involvement during the past two decades.
