목적 : To evaluate the effect of spectacle correction on the change in refractive error in hyperopic children less than 12 years of age with or without strabismus.
방법 : A total of 120 hyperopic children with or without strabismus under 12 years-old. A retrospective review of medical records was performed by a computer based search to identify patients with the diagnosis of hyperopia, accommodative esotropia or exotropia. Initial age at examination, SE refractive error, type of strabismus, amount of undercorrection, duration of spectacle wear, astigmatism, anisometropia and amblyopia were evaluated.
결과 : The mean change in SE refractive errors of both eyes showed a rapid negative shift in undercorrected hyperopic patients compared to esotropes with fully corrected hyperopia, regardless of the presence of strabismus. The amount of undercorrection of hyperopia was positively correlated to the magnitude of decrease in hyperopia (P = 0.007). The amount of initial hyperopia and age were not significantly related to the magnitude of change in refractive errors. Undercorrection of hyperopia ≥1.00 D was the only factor associated with a more negative shift in SE refractive errors (P = 0.018).
결론 : The amount of undercorrection was significantly correlated to the change in hyperopic refractive errors. Full correction of hyperopia may inhibit normal emmetropization during early and late childhood, regardless of the presence of strabismus.
